Sibshops: Support Groups for Siblings 

Description:  

Sibshops was developed for siblings of children with developmental disabilities and has been adapted for siblings of children, among others, with autism.

Objectives:

  • This program will enable siblings to meet other siblings, reducing their sense of isolation and creating an environment of informal sharing and friendship between participants.
  • It will provide an opportunity to discuss shared joys and concerns with other siblings of children with ASD.
  • It will provide an opportunity to learn how others deal with frequently encountered situations.
  • Siblings will have the opportunity to learn more about the implications of their sibling’s needs.
  • This will enable parents and other professionals to learn more about the concerns and opportunities frequently encountered by siblings of people with ASD.
